Eagle Village Phase I Mixed-Use Building
This building is one of three components (student housing, elevated pedestrian walkway) of the seven-acre redevelopment project located on the eastern edge of the University of Mary Washington.
The parking functional design is a two-bay single helix layout complicated by the provision of segregated, secured student parking. This program requirement is addressed through the use of access control equipment utilizing AVI technology. Other users within the facility include office space employees and visitors to the development.
The office building space and the roof over the retail space is constructed using a cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete framing system for the reasons of reduced vibrations and increased headroom. Due to its economy, precast, prestressed concrete was used to construct the elevated parking deck levels. Other materials used in the buildings construction include structural steel arcades, light gage metal exterior stud walls, and light gage metal roof trusses. The building is supported by spread footings founded on soils improved through the use of aggregate piers.
Delivered to the Owner utilizing Concord Eastridge as the prime developer, DESMAN served the design-build team as the project Structural Engineer of Record and Parking Consultant.
