Radnor Township Municipal Building
Architectural Precast Elements:
• High-density spray foam insulation applied directly to the panels’ interior face to create a super-insulated building envelope.
Radnor Township officials wanted to create a high-performance building that still offered a traditional appearance that would welcome visitors.
To achieve these goals, designers combined precast concrete architectural panels embedded with thin brick and large expanses of glass to provide a light-filled space.
A methodical study of exterior building materials resulted in the selection of the precast concrete panel system. The system allowed the creation of a brick exterior while providing a panelized design that was easy to erect, provided high quality through controlled fabrication at the precaster’s plant, and will need minimal maintenance over its life due to the few joints and the embedment of the bricks into concrete rather than framed with mortar.
High-density spray foam insulation was applied directly to the interior face of the panels to provide a super-insulated building envelope consistent with the principals of sustainable design.
